Not all witches are entirely focused on “woo.” In fact, there is a growing number of witches who appreciate and embrace science, and who find ways to incorporate it in their craft. With Valentine’s Day coming in just a few days, now is as good a time as any to delve into the ways that you can use science to your advantage. The following article aims to educate you on some otherwise mundane items that are scientifically proven to inspire feelings of romance and lust.

Use the power of scent

We already know the power of scent is undeniable. Different smells can trigger feelings of nostalgia — or even remind you of traumas that you’d rather not remember. When it comes to romance, the power of scent is no different. If you want to add the element of scent to your magical workings to attract love or to perhaps influence someone to realize their romantic feelings for you, then you might be interested in the following:

Vanilla: Vanilla Orchids have been used for thousands of years as an aphrodisiac, and now academics in various scientific fields belief there is solid evidence behind this. Numerous studies have been done which imply that the scent of vanilla is particularly attractive to men, who are primarily used to smelling and tasting it in baked goods and sweets. A study conducted in 1995 also implied that older men appear to be more attracted to the scent than younger men. So, maybe if your magical intent is to attract an older, distinguished gentleman, consider trying vanilla.

The same can be said about cinnamon. In particular, the scent of fresh-baked cinnamon rolls is long-believed to create a sense of comfort, which — when associated with a potential romantic partner — could develop in to feelings of romantic love. Of course, there are other sources (not as well-researched) which claim that the aroma of cinnamon has a direct affect on men’s erections.

Women, on the other hand, are said to be fond of clean, and fresh scents when in regards to a potential partner. For example, (whether you identify as a man or woman), incorporating the scent of fresh linens with your spellwork may indeed turn the scales in your favor with a woman you wish to date. Avoid musky scents!

What about pheromones?

The science behind the use of pheromones to attract a lover is shaky, but there are studies which indicate some success in using them. According to the Smithsonian Mag, a study in 2005 indicated that both men and women experienced feelings of attraction when they smelled sweat. In the study, heterosexual men preferred the sweat of women, whereas homosexual men preferred the sweat of other men. With women, the results were the same.

Other scientific studies have shown that while pheromones do appear to inspire sexual attraction, the effects aren’t extreme enough to “write home about.” In other words, you’re not going to make rooms full of people swoon at your presence like you just took a sip of Love Potion No. 9, but if someone is already fond of you then the smell of your pheromones will intensify that fondness.

You can purchase pheromone sprays and cologne splashes through quite a view sources, but nothing beats making your own.

Consider Pavlov’s Dog

If you don’t know about Pavlov’s Dog by now, then I don’t really know what to tell you. Click here and read about it, I guess. If you are familiar with it, then you might be interested to know that the entire concept of classical conditioning isn’t just limited to canines. You can definitely influence someone else until they associate a taste, smell, sound, sensation or environment with anything you wish.

Example: The person you have a crush on really enjoys a particular brand of snack chips. This gives you the opportunity to be the bearer of gifts in the form of this simple treat. Every now and then when you know that you may bump into this person, keep a couple packages of these chips so that it looks like you’ve always got extra. When you “run into” your crush you can give it to them, which will begin a pattern of association. Eventually, when this person sees that brand of chips that they love so much, they may possibly begin thinking about you as well. On the other hand, when this person sees you they may start associating you with food and then become hungry instead of amorous.

Now, is this a manipulative tactic that some witches may frown upon and view as an attack on someone else’s free will? Probably, but it is an effective, science-backed concept. And if you’ve cast a love spell and want to give it a little oomph, then it’s worth a try (within reason, of course).

A note about this post

The information shared in this post is intended for more hands-on encounters with people. If you’re casting love spells on people that you have face-to-face access to, then incorporating this information may be useful in your spellcrafting. If you’re aiming to attract love from nowhere, by lighting a vanilla candle and hoping for the best, then you’re probably going to end up disappointed.
