Roses symbolize love, devotion and protection as well as sexual fulfillment. That’s why they make excellent ingredients in love spells as well as magic focusing on protecting one’s relationship from negative influences. Making your own rose vodka gives you a long-lasting ingredient that can be used in a wide variety of ways. The following rose vodka recipe can be made with any store-bought vodka, and roses from your own garden, or a gifted bouquet.
What you need:
- Large glass jar with airtight screw lid
- Rose petals (the more fragrant the better)
- Vodka (any kind will do)
Fill your jar with as many rose petals as you can fit without packing them into it. Don’t smush them down into the jar or overfill it.
Fill the jar with enough vodka to almost fully submerge the rose petals. Do not overfill the jar with the vodka.
Secure the lid tightly on the jar, and then make sure it doesn’t leak from the seal. Do this by tipping it over and holding it upside once or twice. If you’re satisfied that the jar is leak-proof, shake it vigorously for about a minute.
Place the jar in a cool, dark spot (such as the back of a cabinet). Forget about it for a month. During this time the alcohol in the vodka will draw the fragrance and essence from the rose petals. it will also draw the color from the petals. Dark red petals will turn your vodka a similar shade of red, and pink petals will turn it a more pink color. It doesn’t matter what color you use for this recipe, but choose your petals according to the aesthetic you want, if you feel so inclined.
Check to see if the rose petals are done steeping. You can tell they’re no longer useful once they become soggy and almost translucent. The petals should lose all their original color. Carefully remove these spent rose petals by straining the vodka carefully. If you want your vodka to be more strongly fragranced, or you just want more rose essence in it, add more fresh petals to the jar and repeat the process again.
